FOUNDED 1900
The
Philadelphia Water Color Society
was founded
in 1900 as
the Philadelphia Water Color Club by
a small group of dedicated artists working in aqueous media. The
Club developed its own strong exhibits, usually held at the
Academy of Fine Arts, to counter the prevailing dominant influence of oils and
sculpture. Club exhibits now occur in many locations, and include works on paper
in addition to watercolor. Chartered in 1924, the Club now consists of more than
600 local. national, and international members, both
artists and supporters of the arts.
